The retail industry is one of the broadest and most diverse spaces in franchising—and therefore one of the most exciting to watch. And as long as consumers are using, wearing out and buying up new products, the retail business will continue booming.

Though comparing what retailers sell and the services they provide may feel like comparing apples to oranges (or bird seed to batteries), their franchise disclosure documents (FDDs) can make or break a brand for potential owners vetting their options. These documents break down franchises into items such as estimated initial investment (Item 7), and financial performance representations (Item 19). We’ve broken down the FDD details for 10 major franchisors to help paint the picture of today’s retail landscape.
