Since its founding in 1972, Cousins Subs® has grown from a single restaurant run by Bill Specht and his cousin in Milwaukee to 100 restaurants throughout Wisconsin and two in Illinois’ Chicagoland area with 38 additional restaurants slated to open over the next several years.
Bolstered by its success to date, made possible by a second-to-none commitment to quality ingredients and service, Cousins Subs is optimally positioned for growth in the Midwest as the brand invites Michigan-based franchise partners to Believe in Better.
Better ingredients make better subs. Cousins Subs deli fresh and made to order grilled subs served atop the brand’s signature baked bread are hand-crafted using high-quality ingredients. Additionally, its fried cheese curds, mac and cheese and milkshakes are made from Wisconsin-based products. The brand’s passion for high-quality ingredients has made Cousins Subs a sought-out franchise and a destination for lunch, dinner and catering.
“Since we established our Midwestern root nearly 47 years ago, we’ve been unwavering in our commitment to using high-quality ingredients in our menu items including our signature fresh baked bread,” said JJ Palmert, Director of Franchise Sales for Cousins Subs. “We’re also proud to pay homage to our home state by offering Johnsonville Bratwursts, Wisconsin Cheese Curds and milkshakes made from Wisconsin products. Our local ingredients and innovative Midwest-inspired menu items, which are available at an affordable price, are two key differentiators from our competitors.”
Building on its momentum and success in Wisconsin and Illinois, Cousins Subs is planning for expansion in Michigan. The brand is seeking to open one restaurant in each of the following cities – Grand Rapids, Livonia, Detroit, Northville, Southfield, Troy, Sterling Heights, Warren, Ann Arbor, Allen Park, Canton, Westland, Novi, Birmingham, Lathrup Village, Clawson, Rochester and Fraser – which would create an average of 15-20 jobs per restaurant.
With a strong growth-ready franchise model backed by support from an experienced executive leadership team and a strong supplemental education program, Cousins Subs is well-positioned for expansion in Michigan.
“The moment a franchise partner signs on, they join our franchise family that never settles for ‘good enough’ and strives to always ‘make it better.’ To ensure they have the knowledge and tools they need to provide best-in-class product and service, we offer a comprehensive training program featuring both classroom and in-store training over the course of several weeks and ongoing training through CousinsU which is our online and mobile employee learning app,” said Joseph Ferguson, Vice President of Development for Cousins Subs. “We efficiently operate using a scalable model, and our leadership team has a broad depth of experience to support franchisees as we continue to carry out our strategic growth plans.”
In addition to CousinsU, Cousins Subs offers continued education through field trainings and workshops and food safety certification. The company has found its supplemental education provides the foundation for multi-unit franchise partners to enjoy success with the brand.
“Our belief in better drives everything we do here,” Ferguson said. “That’s our unwavering commitment and drives everything we do including our better-than-the-competition franchisee support plan geared toward multi-unit franchise partners.”
