MaidPro, the Boston-based home cleaning business, is one of many housekeeping concepts in the franchising space. Yet, it continues to stand out thanks to its “Friendly is as Friendly Does” approach.

As MaidPro expands, the franchise development team is standing by to walk candidates through the process and answer any and all questions they may have, and  are here to provide the support necessary for our candidates to feel informed and empowered in their decision.

In preparation for this discovery process, we have compiled some essential facts prospective franchisees should know.

Does MaidPro Control Franchisees’ Uniforms, Branded Vehicles and Cleaning Supplies?

Not really! While MaidPro has established baseline expectations and helpful vendor relationships, many of the final decisions are left to franchisees.

  • MaidPro only requires one company vehicle per office, and franchisees can decide whether it makes sense to purchase more.
  • MaidPro is not a direct supplier of cleaning supplies. The franchisor has negotiated the best possible prices with wholesalers, and franchisees can purchase directly from those vendors with no middleman.
  • MaidPro does not sell uniforms. In order to become a bona fide retailer, MaidPro would need to use franchisees’ funds to establish itself. The franchisor instead focuses on improving existing systems while trusting suitable vendors to handle things like uniforms.

How Much Does It Cost?

The initial investment required to start a MaidPro business ranges from $94,560 to $119,800, including a $35,000 franchise fee.

MaidPro’s royalty fee starts at 7% of gross sales and can decrease to as low as 4% as the business grows. MaidPro also charges a 2% national marketing fee supporting local and national programs.

Best of all? Franchisees are not expected to pay every single week. Rather, invoices are sent at the end of each month, and franchisees are allowed an entire month to pay.

What Kind of Support Is Available to Franchisees?

MaidPro franchisees receive support in many forms.

Business coaches work with franchisees to provide the advice an owner may need to keep their business moving forward, whether in the form of a text, call or in-person meeting. Coaches are not here to force structured meeting schedules on franchisees. Rather, they are available as needed to help franchisees solve whatever issues they have identified.

MaidPro also has an extended-hours help desk to answer more general questions.

With proprietary cloud software, MaidPro franchisees can manage scheduling, billing, employee routing, marketing and more. Because the software is cloud-based, it can be accessed from a Mac, iPhone, iPad, PC or whatever device a franchisee uses at virtually any time.

How Does a Smaller Franchisor Like MaidPro Measure Up To Larger Concepts?

MaidPro’s infrastructure ensures franchisees are set up for success. Franchise owners participate in a three-part onboarding and training process, including one module of training, one week of on-site training at MaidPro headquarters and a third module that follows owners through their first few months in business.

The concept’s marketing strategy has also been crafted in a way that positions MaidPro owners — and all members of the franchise system — as experts. The “Pro” in MaidPro stands for professionals. When a consumer looks to hire a professional, they connect with MaidPro on an emotional and intellectual level thanks to expert marketing and branding.

Further, MaidPro is a part of the Threshold Brands portfolio. Existing under this umbrella allows MaidPro corporate leadership and individual franchisees to receive additional support and expertise from many franchising experts. While the knowledge and connection that comes with a large, multi-brand home services franchisor like Threshold Brands are helpful, the size of the franchisor does not overshadow the person-first values of MaidPro and Threshold Brands.

Who Is Most Likely To Succeed With MaidPro?

There is no single image of a successful franchisee. Rather, MaidPro franchisees typically:

  • Embrace new ideas and systems
  • Are fulfilled by providing great customer service
  • Understand that even the most talented people have coaches
  • Are willing to spend time learning new concepts
  • Feel that they are lucky and are excited about their future

What Makes MaidPro Special?

“We ask our franchisees what their dream is, and we work to help them realize that dream,” Manchester said. “If your dream is to build a business that allows you to stop working at 3 P.M. each day and go coach a soccer game or little league game, we’ll help you do that. Or, if you want to work 80 hours each week and build an empire, we’ll help you do that, too.”

While MaidPro has its consistencies in line with the proven business model it has perfected over the years, its leadership also takes an interest in each individual franchisee.

Not only are franchisees receiving the support and guidance they need to build a business, but they are empowered in achieving their larger dreams, as well. In many ways, the MaidPro team is far more than just a franchisor.
