Rashad Terry began his career in telemarketing and sales, but it wasn’t until he met his wife in 2008 that he found the motivation to pursue something more meaningful.

“I left college early and went back home and was doing absolutely nothing at all with my life. When I met my wife, a lot of that changed. I became more driven,” he said.

This newfound drive led him to explore management roles and eventually the staffing industry, where he discovered a passion for helping people find employment. Through some of his initial experience in the industry, Terry started to realize that there was a better way to approach staffing.

“I knew we could do a better job by spending more time with people,” he said.

Feeling slightly discouraged by this obstacle, he worked a brief stint outside of staffing, but soon recognized that helping professionals find a fulfilling career was his true calling despite the challenges in the industry.

In 2021, Terry joined Express Employment Professionals, a move that would change his career trajectory. He was immediately drawn to Express’  values, which closely matched his own. He met key individuals within the company, including the leadership team, who introduced him to the Emerging Entrepreneur program.

The Emerging Entrepreneur program aims to support aspiring entrepreneurs who may lack the capital to get started but possess the potential to succeed as an Express franchisee. It involves rigorous training and development, but makes business ownership accessible to those who are willing to put in the effort.

Encouraged by the leadership team’s support, Terry embarked on a rigorous 14-month journey, commuting over an hour each way to Cleveland, all while balancing his professional and personal commitments. Terry’s hard work and determination paid off, and he successfully completed the program, becoming an Express franchise owner.

“You have to be willing to take a chance because, without going through it, you’re not going to know what you can get out of it,” he said.

Today, Terry is committed to upholding the high standards of Express, focusing on thorough screening processes and truly understanding the individuals they help secure employment.

“We truly want to know about this person inside and out,” he said. “We’re calling people that know them, we’re checking with their former employers as references and we’re digging things out of them that they didn’t realize could help them in a job interview.”
