Breakfast franchise Famous Toastery is taking over a staple location in downtown Winston-Salem and is planning on opening by the end of July. Friends and now business partners Brian Burchill and Robert Maynard opened Toast Cafe as a single restaurant. But after expanding it to a franchise concept, the partners decided to change the name.
“We could have bought the trademark, but we found a lot of Toast Cafes across the country,” Maynard, the company’s CEO, told the Winton-Salem Journal. “We wanted to go for something so distinct that no one would confuse us.”
Priding themselves on making their menu items from scratch, the restaurant serves eggs any style, breakfast sandwiches, French toast and flapjacks. Breakfast also includes such dishes as eggs Benedict and poached eggs with corned beef hash.
“It’s a progressive town. People like good food. There’s a lot of growth going on,” Maynard told the Winston-Salem Journal. “It’s not the Winston-Salem of 15 years ago.”
Maynard said that Famous Toastery will also make use of the space’s rooftop seating. Famous Toastery plans to expand from its six current locations to 15 by the end of the year.Famous Toastery plans to expand from its six current locations to 15 by the end of the year.
