Fast Casual: FDA delays Menu Labeling Enforcement for Another Year

The Food and Drug Administration pushed back the enforcement date for menu labeling for further consideration to reduce costs and enhance flexibility.

The FDA is delaying its menu labeling rule’s enforcement until next year. The rule was set to take place Friday, but the agency pushed it back until May 7, 2018. 

The FDA announced the delay in a news release, saying the extra year allows for “further consideration of what opportunities there may be to reduce costs and enhance the flexibility of these requirements beyond those reflected in the interim final rule.”

The National Restaurant Association Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and Policy Cicely Simpson responded, “This delay upends plans that have been in motion for years throughout the food industry. We will continue to strongly advocate on behalf of what is best for small businesses and American consumers."
