As conserving energy and being environmentally conscious becomes increasingly important for consumers across the country, brands are figuring out how they can make the movement a part of their identity. But so far, only a few have made significant progress toward reducing the energy that they use. One of those brands is Arby&rsquo;s.

<a href="https://www.fastcasual.com/news/how-arbys-saved-enough-water-in-6-months-to-fill-11-olympic-size-pools/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=fast-casual-how-arbys-saved-enough-water-in-six-months-to-fill-11-olympic-size-pools-2703710" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">According to a recent Fast Casual article</a>, the brand teamed up with the Energy Star program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in an effort to cut its energy and water use in its restaurants across the country. And now, the EPA is reporting that its initiatives have been a success. Energy Star&rsquo;s website notes that by 2015, Arby&rsquo;s reached 15.2 percent savings through its commitment to the program, making it the &ldquo;most successful voluntary energy efficiency movement in history.&rdquo;

To make those impressive results a reality, the brand undertook a variety of initiatives, including acquiring more energy-efficient and cost-effective equipment. The brand replaced more than 300 gas fryers for Energy Star-certified ones, saving them $117,000 in energy costs in 2016 alone. Arby&rsquo;s also installed EPA WaterSense-labeled irrigation controllers at 85 restaurants across the country, ultimately sving 7.4 million gallons of water every six months. That&rsquo;s enough water to fill 11 Olympic-size swimming pools.
