Jeff Moore's journey into the fitness industry was unexpected, but led to decades of success in the industry, and culminated in his recent multi-unit development deal with Fitness Premier, the 19-location training-focused gym concept. He is currently working on opening 11 Fitness Premier locations throughout South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee.

Before his multi-unit franchise success, Moore got his start in the fitness industry in his small home town in rural West Kentucky.

“I got into the fitness industry purely by accident and mistake,” he said.

The local gym that Moore attended was in turmoil. The trainer had vanished with the boot camp funds, leaving the owners and members in a lurch. Knowing Moore’s military background, the gym leadership turned to him for help. Despite his initial hesitation — “I said no. People would die if I was running a boot camp” — he agreed to take on the challenge.

As it happened, the trainees loved the level of challenge, and every single participant asked Moore to train with them one-on-one.

This unexpected success led Moore to purchase his first gym in his hometown, which was in dire need of revitalization. When he acquired it, the facility had only 246 members in a community of 3,400 people. Through hard work and community engagement, he turned it around, eventually boasting 1,500 members.

After several other gym business ventures, Moore sold his properties and moved to Florida, where he had a short-lived retirement, which he found too boring to continue. His extensive experience soon drew him back into the industry. He worked for several major fitness brands before his path eventually crossed with Joe Ranieri, vice president of operations for Fitness Premier, setting the stage for his next big venture.

When Ranieri approached Moore with the opportunity to join Fitness Premier, Moore’s answer was definite.

“Absolutely positively, let's figure out what it looks like and see how it does,” he said.

Fitness Premier’s model allows Moore to focus on individual relationships and community impact, much like his first small-town gym experience.

“I want to help less people more, rather than a lot more people less,” he explained, emphasizing his preference for meaningful, personal interactions over sheer volume. “This opportunity came along to allow me to help people at a much higher level in a much more one-on-one way.”

Currently, Moore is overseeing the development of 11 Fitness Premier properties, with plans to expand further. Moore’s approach to expansion is both strategic and personal. Instead of randomly selecting locations, he is leveraging his extensive network of seasoned operators.

Looking ahead, Moore envisions a future of steady, thoughtful growth with Fitness Premier, always with a focus on personal connections and community well-being at the core.
