By JORDAN BRANDES The world of food is constantly changing. Every year, new tastes emerge as people around the world discover they love foods they didn't know existed and find innovative new ways to enjoy them.  Knowing what the trends are before they arrive can be a tremendous asset to any new franchise. Here are four key trends predicted for 2013 by the United Kingdom-based Mintel International.
  • Beef Alternatives – Commodity prices continue to rise and put a strain on all meats, especially beef. With the product harder to come by restaurants need to find new and creative ways to fill that void.
  • Better Beverages- The past few years have brought with them new and innovative beverages. From gourmet cocktails to craft beers consumers now have higher expectations of what can be done with beverages. That puts more pressure on pressure on franchises to come up with innovative ways to present them.
  • Quality Ingredients- After the food scares of the past couple of years consumers are more attentive to what goes into their products. Choosing the right products and the proper menu language can be vital.
  • Roaming Customers- With high-quality vending machines and food trucks becoming more common the average consumer has become mobile and can be reached any time of day. Providing access to your product beyond standard business hours will help to reach more consumers.
