While you might think of the ‘80s when hearing the word “Jazzercise,” it is very much still around today.

Started in 1969 by Judi Sheppard Missett, Jazzercise studios host high-intensity cardio classes offering a mix of dance-fusion workouts. The franchise boasts one of the biggest loyal customer bases across the globe and requires a super-low upfront investment fee for franchisees. This is largely due to the fact that franchisees can find affordable space at a school, church or community center that will welcome their Jazzercise business.

Missett still runs the company today as CEO, while her daughter, Shanna Missett Nelson, serves as President as well as an instructor.

How Many Jazzercise Locations Are There?

There are over 8,500 Jazzercise locations in 25 countries worldwide. Together they hold approximately 32,000 classes per week.

What Is the Business Model?

Jazzercise offers two types of franchises, and every certified instructor is a franchisee.

Instructor Franchisee: For those who want to teach and do not want to run the business side of things. These instructors teach for a Class Owner Franchisee.

Class Owner Franchisee: These franchisees want to make business decisions and will create their own Jazzercise small business.

Class owner franchisees will get access to new franchisee virtual training; digitally delivered choreography; entire online routine choreography database; use of name, social media guide + brand, ad and promotional images; digital access to our network of franchisees worldwide; discount on Jazzercise On Demand with Livestream Classes; apparel discount; on-staff exercise physiologist who provides continual guidance, expertise, and supporting training materials; support through Franchise Customer Support team; a Sales Manager to serve as a personal business consultant; and a rebate program (as available for franchise owners meeting rebate status). Instructor franchisees get access to everything on the list with the exception of having a Sales Manager and rebate program.

How Much Can Jazzercise Franchise Owners Make?

Jazzercise does not disclose financials on how much its franchise owners make. Franchise earnings and revenue can vary significantly from one franchisee to the next. Earnings can be impacted by factors such as labor costs, lease rates, hours worked and more.

How Much Does It Cost To Open a Jazzercise?

The estimated cost to open a Jazzercise is $2,000–$41,000. Costs for both types of franchisees include:

  • One-time Initial Franchise Fee: $1,250 (may be made in two payments)
  • General Liability Insurance (available through Jazzercise): approximately $275/year
