This franchise has a unique lounge suite rental model that gives practitioners total autonomy with studio suites.

REPORTED COST TO GET IN: $1,007,875–$1,636,200

Founded in 1998, Salons by JC was started by Jack Griffey and Cecil Miller in Dallas, Texas.  The franchise leases private suites to individual beauty practitioners who rent the suites in the Salons by JC building but operate their businesses separate from Salons by JC.

The lounge suite rental model is designed to give beauty and fitness practitioners total autonomy with studio suites. Salon by JC offers up to 50 private suites for self-employed professionals. Suites include mirrors, shampoo pots, beds, blankets, hairdryers, and roller carts with other equipment and materials. Services include hairstyling, cutting, sewing, massage, nails and makeup.

How Many Locations Are There?

Salons by JC was established in 1997 by Jack Griffey & Cecil Miller after Jack's wife, Elke, experienced a sudden closure of her salon. They started leasing individual suites to multiple salon and beauty professionals, leading to the birth of Salons by JC. Their first location opened in Dallas, Texas. Salons by JC has since grown to over 150 locations across 26 states and Canada, and the franchise has ambitious plans to open over 100 more in the future.

What Is the Business Model?

The Salons by JC concept secures between 6,000 and 10,000 square feet of retail space in trade areas. Each location is planned to accommodate as many as 50 salon professionals in a functional setting. Each owner is provided with a turnkey furniture-and-fixture package, along with business tools to manage and coordinate a full-service salon.

Franchisees don't need prior salon industry experience as they primarily focus on attracting and leasing to beauty professionals and Salons by JC provides comprehensive support and training.

Salons by JC says its salon model is distinguished from the competition by the presence of a trained salon concierge who provides service to both the suite owners and their guests. Additionally, franchisees have the ability for the suite owners to customize and individualize their suite in a way that reflects their personality and their business.

The interior construction and design are managed by a national firm that reinforces brand standards while incorporating local market elements. Architectural features include expansive hallways, high ceilings, detailed trim work and elegant lighting features. The overall effect is designed to create an impression of openness while providing the sense of privacy for patrons.
