Fast Food Worker Strike On Thursday September 4, 2014, fast-food workers and activists in more than 100 cities across the U.S went on strike demanding higher wages and better working conditions. The strike is over the topic of raising minimum wage and creating better working conditions. (The Huffington Post) Burger 21 Expanding The better-burger franchise, Burger 21, founded by the owners of The Melting Pot Restaurants Inc. will be expanding into 10 new states. Currently the brand has 13 restaurants and is in development to open 26 more locations. Burger 21 announced their first franchise signing in Michigan and has plans to open in Ann Arbor. (QSR Magazine) Start Giving this September This September Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt will be partnering with Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign. The frozen yogurt brand will be offering limited edition 16-ounce collectible cups and $1 from each purchase will go to No Kid Hungry. Over 300 Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt locations will be participating. The brand will also host a Facebook campaign from September 8 to 12, and a Twitter campaign on September 20, to benefit the cause. (Fast Casual) A Splash of Almond Milk Dunkin’ Donuts has announced a partnership with Blue Diamond Growers. Their partnership will include Vanilla Almond Breeze Almond milk being available in hot and iced drinks, which will be a non-dairy alternative for Dunkin’ fans. (franchising.com) A New President for Jack in the Box Denny’s executive Frances Allen has been named the new president of Jack in the Box Inc. The change will take place effective October 27, 2014. Allen will be replacing Lenny Comma, who has been promoted to chairman and chief executive of the San Diego-based operator. (Nation’s Restaurant News)
