Funtastik Labs, the emerging children’s entertainment franchise, will roll out its new design model this summer with its upcoming opening in Sugar Land, Texas. The updated model includes significant changes to the brand’s original center design and layout that have been drawn directly from the feedback of customers and team members, as well as the firsthand experience of the leadership team at its Katy location.

“When we created Funtastik LabsRoli had a vision for a fun place designed for inspiring a love for science, arts and engineering,” said Raj Gupta, managing director of Funtastik Labs. “We needed a center. It couldn’t be done properly through a portable model.”

Armed with just a vision, the team tried to work with interior designers and architects but found it difficult for them to grasp the vision without an existing model to base it on.

“In the end, we ended up finding a space and designing it ourselves,” he said. “So our Katy location was really a proof of concept.”

The first Funtastik Labs location, according to Gupta, was selected to optimize fixed costs. In doing something that hadn’t been done before, there were a lot of uncertainties about the investment, break-even, operations and marketing.

More Fun! More Wow!

The second location integrates the learnings from its first location and is designed to further the vision and optimize for growth.

“The new center gives us the opportunity to really give the place more character and wow!” Gupta said.

Featuring cool decorative and functional features, the new space is a culmination of over a year’s work. A year in which the team worked with real estate agents, architects, interior designers, construction firms, engineers, electricians, plumbers, general contractors and even HVAC companies to bring the vision to life.

“We got really involved in the buildout and permitting process to understand and scrutinize every part of the new space design,” Gupta said. “Our goal was to optimize the costs and maximize the experience across the different types of customers we serve.”

Among the many cool new features, the space will include an expanded custom designed slime bar and a bigger and more attractive storefront. The space will also feature a refreshed brand palette with fun accents and cool new structural features.

Funtastik Labs’ external presentation will also be elevated. The new Sugar Land location, which is being built following the new model, has more obvious external signage, a larger window display and attention-grabbing colors.

“It won’t be something you can easily miss,” Gupta said.

Strategic Planning Benefits Everyone

“We spent a lot of time on this model looking at it from multiple dimensions,” Gupta said. “Funtastik Labs should be a great experience for the kids first and foremost, but also the parents and teachers who bring children in and the team members that help us deliver on the vision.”

The physical changes being made to the model are accompanied by further development of Funtastik Labs’ ATOM tool, a digital assistant that provides additional in-center support.

“ATOM will be available with the new model. Not only is it going to have a lot more activities, it’s going to be easier to find those activities,” Gupta said. “For example, say I go in with my spouse and daughter. I can select from several painting options and ATOM will guide me step-by-step how to do it at the pace I want to go at while repeating individual steps. So I can do this while my spouse and daughter are working on an entirely different painting or slime right next to me.”

As Funtastik Labs prepares to launch its new model, the goal remains unchanged: to ignite a passion for exploration and creativity in a safe, supportive space. By embracing innovation and adaptability in its own practices, the Funtastik Labs team has been able to further push the boundaries of what science, art and engineering entertainment and exploration can look like and create an unparalleled opportunity for kids to discover and thrive.

“Our mission is all about inspiring a love of STEAM and a big part of that is about helping kids build that confidence and having that ownership in an activity so they know, ‘I can do this.’” Gupta said. “A lot of the things that communicate that autonomy to the kids were already inherent to the model, and now we’ve just complimented that even more to further elevate the space and experience.”
