Wadud Bhuiya, a Griswold franchisee in California, was recently featured in an article in McKnights Home Care highlighting his journey from a career in biotechnology to a new purpose in home care.

With a PhD in biology from the Tokushima University, Bhuiya spent years working as a microbiologist at companies like Quantum-Sci and Encodia. But after losing his mother to dementia in December 2024, he was inspired to pivot into the senior care space. He launched his Griswold Home Care for La Jolla just a few months ago

Bhuiya says the transition has given him “a cause to see the reflection of my life and what I can do with the rest of my life to see what I can do so I can lead with a purpose.” He plans to grow his team to about 10 staff members by November and host a grand opening event on December 8, 2025 — the one-year anniversary of his mother’s passing. His vision for the business centers on three pillars: trusting relationships, quality personal care and meaningful connections. Beyond traditional in-home support, he hopes to connect families with a wide range of services, from therapists and physicians to financial advisors and senior technology resources.

A key focus for Bhuiya is strengthening caregiver training and ensuring they feel supported in their work. He admires the mission of the Jean Griswold Foundation, which provides scholarships for Caregivers. “I know this business needs caring people, so it takes time to build a relationship and build connections, and I have a passion for that,” he said.

For Bhuiya, the most rewarding part is helping seniors feel valued, connected and less lonely. “When I can contribute to improve the quality of their life, when I see the smile on their face and they are happy, they feel like they’re not lonely, that motivates me and uplifts me,” he said.

By building a franchise rooted in compassion and quality, Bhuiya hopes to set an example for others while honoring the legacy of his mother. As he put it, “Every senior has a unique story.”
