Griswold Home Care, the non-medical home care franchise with 168 locations nationwide, is founded on the core value of “Griswoldness,” an emphatic and community-driven mindset held by all franchisees. Those looking for an example of Griswoldness need look no further than Jen and Jeffrey Boesger — the Ohio-based, father-and-daughter franchisee duo behind Griswold Home Care of South Columbus and the winners of 2021’s Griswold’s New Owner award. The Boesgers were presented with the award at Griswold’s annual conference in Philadelphia on October 28th, 2021.

“Before we opened a franchise, I worked at a Griswold Home Care location in St. Petersburg, Florida — first as a caregiver and then as an assistant director,” said Jen. “My history has always been as a caregiver — that is where my career started in home care. I had a private client who utilized Griswold for the hours I didn’t have a caregiver, and I noticed they really tried hard to match clients with the right caregivers. I saw firsthand the true difference between Griswold and other home care providers.”

After six years working with Griswold Home Care, Jen reached out to her father, Jeffrey, to see if he would be interested in co-investing in a franchise location of their own.

“My background has been in transportation, but I’ve been looking for a business to invest in for about 30 years,” said Jeffrey. “I’ve done a lot of research and have looked into many franchise concepts, but Jen had been with Griswold Home Care for a long time, so we saw how the business operated and knew we would have all the systems and support in place to succeed.”

As someone with personal caregiving experience, Jen was drawn to Griswold Home Care’s differentiated and compassionate approach to home care. The brand uses a unique science-based assessment tool to measure and evaluate the client’s cognitive function to determine engagement steps and match them with caregivers, who provide homemaking, personal care, companion care, hospice care, respite care, live-in overnight care and more.

“Other companies don’t pay as much attention to the caregivers,” said Jen. “That is why I originally wanted to join the office as a caregiver. Griswold wants caregivers and clients to connect on a personal level. That lets us stand out, especially with how we treat our caregivers.”

The Boesgers officially opened their Griswold Home Care operation in August 2020, and Jeffrey says the business set off on a strong start despite the challenges of the pandemic. “Griswold has been so supportive with training, opening procedures, operations and everything else you can imagine,” he said. “This has allowed us to thrive despite the pandemic.”

Additionally, Jen points out that the COVID-19 pandemic has created an even greater demand for safe, comfortable and quality home care, which means their services have been more needed than ever in their community.

“I was working with Griswold when the pandemic first hit, and one of the biggest things that impacted the senior population was the isolation — family members not being able to see them,” said Jen. “Now, we are working with a lot of clients who want to age in place so they can spend more time with their loved ones. In our community, there is a large senior population but not a lot of home care awareness. So getting out there and spreading the word is very important to us.”

Now in their second year of franchise ownership, Jen and Jeffrey say they are excited to continue expanding their business into new territories and are honored to have received Griswold Home Care’s New Owner award.

“We are honored to have been chosen for Griswold’s New Owner award,” said Jen. “Having worked for Griswold Home care since 2013, it has been great to be able to open a franchise with my dad. The first year flew by and we are looking forward to building on our success.”

The cost to open a Griswold Home Care franchise ranges from $108,181 to $181,431, including a $49,500 franchise fee. For more information on franchising with Griswold Home Care, visit https://www.griswoldhomecare.com/franchising/.
