Griswold, the leading non-medical home care franchise, recently celebrated the dedication of a 5.5-mile stretch of State Route 301 in Pennsylvania in honor of their late founder, Dr. Jean Griswold. The renaming of this segment, now known as the Dr. Jean Griswold Memorial Highway, is a result of the approved Pennsylvania House Bill 2295. Dr. Jean Griswold, who founded the company in 1982, was a trailblazer in the in-home care industry, using her personal experiences and connections to provide care for those in need. The memorial highway extends from Norristown to Blue Bell, PA, the location of the Griswold corporate headquarters.

“This is something that has been in the works for a while, and it is an amazing way to honor my mother’s legacy alongside the 40th anniversary of the Griswold company,” said Kent Griswold, her son. “When my mother started Griswold, there weren’t many other options for people who needed in-home care. She was a true visionary in the industry, and it is great that the legislature found a way to recognize her life and accomplishments.”

A ceremony took place on April 27, 2023, to mark the occasion, introduced by Representative Mary Jo Daley (D-148) of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives. The event, held outside of the VEVA Building in Blue Bell, saw attendees from the Griswold family, staff and the executive team, including CEO Mike Slupecki, alongside local government officials such as Sen. Maria Collett and Rep. Greg Scott. The dedication coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Griswold company.

Dr. Jean Griswold was a dedicated advocate for in-home care, driven to create her company after witnessing the death of an elderly woman in her community who lacked a support system for care. Despite living with multiple sclerosis, a condition that had left her wheelchair-bound, Dr. Jean Griswold utilized her connections to certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and students enrolled in nursing programs to establish one of the most successful non-medical home care organizations in the country. She continued to achieve notable milestones, earning various accolades for her work, and passed away in 2017 at the age of 86.

Today, Dr. Jean Griswold's legacy continues to inspire and influence many, with over 170 independent Griswold franchise units operating across the country. The Jean Griswold Foundation, a non-profit arm of the organization, is set to award $100,000 in scholarships this year to caregivers from across the country. Looking ahead, Griswold aims to honor Dr. Jean Griswold’s vision by continuing to provide high-quality care and helping seniors live independently and comfortably in their own homes.
