Juanna Elliot, a Wilmington, North Carolina, resident, dedicates her days to caregiving while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood. Employed by Griswold Home Care, she tends to two regular clients, dividing her time between two shifts daily with only one day off each week. Despite her busy schedule, Elliot pursued her dream of becoming a certified nursing assistant (CNA), enrolling in the program at Cape Fear Community College.

Theo Hinckley, her nursing supervisor, commended her reliability and client rapport, recommending her for a $1,500 scholarship from the Jean Griswold Foundation. It was to no one’s surprise apart from Elliot’s that she received the award.

“Whenever we were in a bind and needed somebody to fill in, she was going,” Hinckley told Star News. “You could call her anytime, and she’d say, ‘Yes, I’ll go.’ She might have to rearrange her life to do it, but she would do it.”

With her new qualification, Elliot looks forward to providing more specialized care while continuing to work for Griswold, among the staff and clients she has gotten to know and love.
