The support team remains flexible, staying longer if necessary to ensure the franchise is set up for long-term success.“Depending on how that opening goes, if we need to stay longer than a week, or two or three, we stay and help offer support as long as possible,” said Balluff.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:justify;">Ongoing Operational Support</h2>After opening, franchisees continue to receive regular training and operational assistance from the Happy Joe’s Support Center. One of the key components of this support is the brand’s monthly BEST workshops, which stands for Brand Excellence and Standards Training.&nbsp;“We come up with different workshops and go over things like best practices, hiring and retention, hospitality, as well as service, leadership, training,” said Balluff. “There are a lot of different things that we offer monthly.”&nbsp;Support extends beyond group training. Happy Joe’s provides one-on-one educational assistance through visits from various members of the support team, including the vice president of operations, the training and culinary department and field business consultants. Many members of the team are certified to teach and proctor&nbsp;<a href="https://www.servsafe.com/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=happy-joes-franchise-training-program-2729068" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">ServSafe</a> courses, further enhancing in-person training capabilities.In cases where specific stores need a refresher or are falling short on survey scores, Happy Joe’s offers re-certification through specialized courses, including pizza-making refreshers and a “Traditions” course focused on brand culture. The franchise also supports ongoing education through an online learning management platform.<h2 style="text-align:justify;">How Happy Joe’s Ensures Consistency in Quality and Customer Experience&nbsp;</h2>To maintain brand consistency, Happy Joe’s conducts brand standard evaluations multiple times per year. These evaluations are performed by franchise business consultants (FBCs) who visit each location several times annually, depending on performance metrics.&nbsp;“The FBCs go out into the field anywhere from three to four times a year,” said Balluff. “If you hit a certain score, it could be up to three times a year, but if you have a lower score than that ensures that they're going to be out a fourth time.”&nbsp;Evaluations cover everything from proprietary product usage to cleanliness standards, which are intentionally designed to be stricter than typical health department inspections. Beyond formal evaluations, support team members frequently visit locations to offer additional coaching and correct any inconsistencies quickly.<h2 style="text-align:justify;">Technology’s Role in Support</h2>Happy Joe’s recently upgraded to a modern training platform that enables shoulder-to-shoulder learning. This system is accessible via app and allows training staff to work side-by-side with franchisees, combining digital resources with hands-on experience in areas like food and beverage preparation and standard operating procedures.“The idea is that we fire up that laptop or tablet, we stand shoulder to shoulder, cover all of our material from a food and beverage manual and our SOPs, then we close the laptop and go get on the line and start working,” said Balluff.The brand has also invested in new inventory and recipe management software to help franchisees control food costs more efficiently. Additionally, Happy Joe’s has implemented a new platform that centralizes training materials and enables the creation of store-specific checklists to maintain brand standards.<h2 style="text-align:justify;">Adapting Training and Support in the Evolving Industry&nbsp;</h2>Happy Joe’s training team actively participates in industry events such as the National Pizza Expo and the National Restaurant Show in Chicago to stay current with trends and innovations. These events provide insight into evolving consumer preferences and emerging technologies.“We go to those yearly, and we are out looking at anything that's new and trending and always looking for the best training platforms,” said Balluff.&nbsp;Leadership encourages the training team to stay informed through reading and ongoing research, often sharing articles and tools to consider.
