Honest Lash, the emerging lash and brow enhancement franchise, will soon launch its very own Lash University as it continues to grow its presence across its home state. Transforming its West Campus studio on Rio Grande, Honest Lash will begin offering specialized education, training and practical service opportunities early next year for cosmetology students looking to develop their skills after general licensure and passionate lash stylists hoping to grow in the industry.

“We are currently working toward our license with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation so that we can become an official university,” said Megan Madere, chief operating officer at Honest Lash. “Once we have that, we will be able to offer a 320-hour program that will allow students to earn a specialty lash license from the state of Texas.”

Madere explained that, after earning a cosmetology license, a new cosmetologist can technically practice in a range of areas, including esthetics, nail services, hair cutting/coloring/braiding and wig specialization. Many young professionals prefer to specialize in a specific service after graduation, but without additional training, their understanding of the work is still fairly broad. This is where Lash University comes into the equation.

“At Honest Lash, we have always been very specific about our training,” Madere said. “Even if a new stylist comes to the team with previous lashing experience, we want her to go through our training to ensure she understands our specific process and can provide the level of service our clients expect. Since we’ve already built so much of this curriculum, it just made sense to open the opportunity up to even more aspiring lash artists.”

Students at Lash University will receive a starter kit with Honest Lash tools and products to prepare them for their learning. Like any cosmetology education process, students will go through classroom training before they’re offered salon experience.

Madere explained that she is especially excited about launching Lash University at the Rio Grande location due to the proximity to UT Austin. Aspiring stylists will have a large pool of potential clients, and students can begin to experience Honest Lash at a lower price point.

“Once they start the practical part of the program, our students will offer services at a super discounted rate,” she said. “In an area with so many students, this is critical. A lot of these college girls are living on very limited income, and the opportunity to get their lashes professionally done at a discounted rate is really exciting. And for our students, this demand will provide plenty of opportunity to practice the social aspects of the cosmetology industry.”

While there are a few major names in other segments of cosmetology education, like Paul Mitchell in the hair space, it is much more rare in the lash space. Honest Lash’s Lash University will be the first in the Austin area, and Madere said it will be one of just a few nationally. As the team works to obtain all the necessary licenses and begin courses at its Austin location, it is already looking forward to the future of Lash University.

“We’re excited to start Lash University at our West Campus location, but we’re definitely looking to expand to more studios across Austin and beyond,” Madere said. “We’re proud of the Honest Lash approach, technique and products, and we look forward to empowering even more aspiring lash stylists to offer these amazing services to their own clients.”
