Professional organizing has existed for decades, but Bee Organized believes the industry has only recently begun to evolve. While many organizing businesses still operate as independent solo practices, the Kansas City-based franchise has spent the past decade building a scalable model designed to bring more professionalism, consistency and long-term growth to the category.

Founded in 2015 by best friends Kristen Christian and Lisa Foley, Bee Organized has grown to more than 40 locations nationwide by approaching organizing as more than creating tidy spaces. The brand combines multiple service lines, a home-based operating model and a psychology-driven approach that helps clients develop organizing systems they can actually maintain.

"We saw an opportunity to come in and be pioneers and really help elevate this industry," said Christian. "It has traditionally been driven by one-woman solopreneurs, so we're really leveling up the industry with professionalism and a team approach so that our owners can come into the marketplace and really play in a different field.”

A Business Model Built for Scale

One of Bee Organized's biggest differentiators is the breadth of services each franchise owner can offer. The business operates across three primary categories: residential and commercial organizing, move and life transition management and concierge services. Because each category serves both homes and businesses, franchisees have six distinct revenue opportunities instead of relying on a single service offering. The model also eliminates the expense of a retail storefront.

“It's low overhead,” Christian said. “Without a brick-and-mortar, you avoid that additional cost. And with our unique workforce, they're part-time hourly, so you're not attached to salary. That's really how we keep that overhead low.”

Although organizing is the service customers see, franchise ownership is about building and managing a team rather than organizing every project personally. Instead of remaining the primary organizer, successful owners recruit and manage multiple "Bees" who serve clients simultaneously throughout their territories. That allows the business to grow well beyond what one individual could accomplish alone.

"This isn't designed for someone who simply loves organizing," Christian said. "It's for someone who wants to build and scale a business. It's such a scalable business because our model allows you to have multiple ‘Bees’ — what we call our organizers — out in the marketplace in multiple clients’ homes or offices. So it's so scalable and we give the blueprint for that.”

That scalability, combined with growing consumer demand, positions the brand well for future growth. An aging population, increasing consumerism and greater awareness of how clutter affects mental well-being are trends that continue to expand the need for professional organizing services.

"We've only scratched the surface of the opportunity," she said. "Every person and every business deals with organization in some way.”

Moving Bee-yond Pinterest-Perfect Organization

After working with thousands of clients, the company noticed recurring behavioral patterns that often prevented people from getting and staying organized. Those observations led to the development of seven organizing profiles that help identify how clients relate to their belongings and what habits may be creating clutter.

"We're not about Pinterest-perfect organizing," Christian said. "We're meeting clients where they are, having those conversations about what's really getting in the way and creating systems that work for them.”

Bee Organized tailors solutions based on individual behaviors and motivations. That focus on behavioral psychology positions it differently from many competitors that primarily emphasize aesthetics.

"The goal is sustainable organization," she said. "What works for one person may not work for someone else."

Solving Meaningful Problems

Many Bee Organized projects begin during major life changes rather than routine home improvement projects. Franchisees regularly help clients after the loss of a loved one, during downsizing, retirement, relocation or other significant transitions. Others work with business owners seeking more efficient workspaces or operational systems.

"Yes, we're professional organizers, but what we're really providing is more time, more peace, better health and often even financial benefits," she said. “Organization creates positive change that goes far beyond a closet or a pantry.”
