As the business continues to grow, the entrepreneur has not only been able to bring more jobs to his community, but Fouts has also been able to deliver the holiday cheer that he has come to know and love.&nbsp;1851 Franchise spoke to Fouts about his franchising journey with Christmas Decor.&nbsp;1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us.&nbsp;What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Fouts: I started a lawn maintenance business in 1991. If there wasn’t a good snow year, we were always running into the issue of not having much work through the winter. Because we're in Illinois, the grass stops growing in October or November. I needed to find something to keep full-time workers year round. In 1999, I was at a show in Chicago at Navy Pier and ran into the Christmas Decor franchise team. After talking to the team, we took a leap of faith and joined the company and haven't looked back since.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Fouts:&nbsp;I had never looked into it. I didn't know what the franchise system was. But I thought I would be good at following a plan, and franchises already have a working plan. I was able to learn quickly with Christmas Decor’s help.&nbsp;1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Fouts: Back in 1999, they were pretty much the only brand on the market doing this. They are the best, and they teach you how to be perceived as the best. You still have to do the work to become successful, but they gave you the tools to do so.&nbsp;1851:&nbsp;What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?&nbsp;Fouts:&nbsp;Since 1999, there have been very few years that I have not grown. My potential for growing is based on my labor force. The need is out there, and I want to continue finding the people to grow and work together. .&nbsp;1851:&nbsp;What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?&nbsp;Fouts:&nbsp;We do lawn maintenance. But I've never really heard my guys talking about how they’re going to take their family by to show straight lines [from mowed grass]. But I do hear them say how they’re going to take them by to see houses we do for Christmas. I think it's a great break for them to get out of the monotony of lawn mowing and fertilizer. Royalties also mean that you have full-time marketing programs and warehouse teams. What do you want us to know?Pratham Patel:&nbsp;I’m 24 years old and graduated from Georgia Tech in May 2023 with a degree in computer science. This is my first time stepping into the food and beverage industry on my own, and it’s a new challenge I’m excited to take on. Having lived here my entire life, I know the community and the market inside and out, which gives me a strong foundation as I build something here.1851: What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Patel:&nbsp;In my first role, I worked on implementing advanced business analytics strategies for a mobile ordering platform widely used in the hospitality industry. After that, I joined Boeing as a systems data analyst supporting the C-17 program here in my hometown. When I experienced a layoff at Boeing, it forced me to take a step back and really think about what I wanted long term. I also looked at one of their best-performing locations in California and saw how they utilized their patio and interior design. I’m taking elements from that success to build something new here.&nbsp;Long term, I’m focused on growth. Once we’re fully operational and have achieved great success, I plan to explore opening additional locations across the Southeast, with markets like Charlotte and Miami already on my radar. I come from a major brand, so I know how the brand sells. I’ve learned that different franchises give you different levels of freedom. Not all franchises are a good fit for you and you have to pick an industry that's familiar. I wouldn't go into something if I didn’t know how it worked because your takeoff will be a&nbsp; lot longer and your path is a lot harder.&nbsp;1851:&nbsp;What made you pick this brand? This will be the core business, but we have the first right of refusal for any of those other brands. This is just a start.Duran:&nbsp;The sky is the limit. Right now, our focus is building a strong foundation and serving our community well, but we’re excited about the long-term possibilities1851:&nbsp;Is there anything else about your story you want us to know?Dedrick:&nbsp;We always give back. That's one thing we've always done as a family. My parents ran a very successful preschool in South LA for 35 years and gave back to the community by making sure the children ate the same quality food we ate at home. We think everybody should be treated fairly and equally. We do the same thing here. I thought I would train people to fix houses and give them jobs.1851: What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Campbell:&nbsp;As I started writing up that workforce development program, it was really hard. I’m a Baby Boomer myself, and I know that 65 is just getting in the game nowadays.I’ve ensured that our team learns about senior citizens. As a senior, we sometimes forget that we’re not 21 anymore. People know about the risk of falling, but they still get on ladders.I went to change a light bulb the other day on a step ladder, and when I was coming down, I almost broke my neck. I can afford to have somebody come over and do the maintenance plan. They can come by every quarter. That fall was fitting — I’d never had that happen before.We don’t age in our minds as much as we age in our bodies. It’s just not worth it. Sometimes you can have a fall and get injuries that you never recover from.1851: What does your background bring to the TruBlue model?Campbell:&nbsp;I’m a senior. I’m in real estate.
