How This Texas Business Owner Found Success in Restoration Services

For United Water Restoration Group franchisee Tracy Hammock, the ability to help people is the most exciting part of the job.

Tracy Hammock had been working in the financial services industry for over 20 years when he decided he wanted to pursue something different. During a volunteer trip to Houston following Hurricane Harvey, Hammock wanted to keep helping people in need. Soon after, he was introduced to United Water Restoration Group (UWRG), the premier water restoration and reconstruction franchise.

Hammock has been a franchisee with UWRG since 2018. He started his Texas operations in Austin and eventually expanded into San Antonio. Now, he wants to continue growing his business, help people recover their most valuable assets and get back to normal life after a disaster strikes.

1851 Franchise spoke to Hammock about his franchising journey with UWRG.

1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?

Hammock: Prior to UWRG, I was in the financial industry for 20-plus years. I was really just  looking for something different. I began looking at some various options and franchise opportunities, and I ended up being connected with UWRG.

1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?

Hammock: I thought of fast food brands when I thought about franchising. I didn’t know that there were so many different options out there to explore.

1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?

Hammock: After leaving my old company,  I spent a couple weeks down in Houston volunteering after Hurricane Harvey. I became interested in helping people in need. The ability to help people excites me the most. Their core values line up with my own. It's nice to be able to help people who are going through a hard time.

1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?

Hammock: I started in Austin and expanded into San Antonio. At this point we are working hard to continue to grow in both of those markets.

1851: What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?

Hammock: You don’t have to have experience in the field. You can come from a different background and be successful. Work hard, and be dedicated. You can find success.

1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?

Hammock: It's a lot of hard work and dedication. Get ready to understand the details of the business and face things along the way. But the franchisor is there to help you along the way.
