Thousands of business owners and hopeful entrepreneurs will be making the trek to the Big Apple this month for the International Franchise Expo, taking place June 15 through June 17 at the Javits Center in the heart of New York City. This will be the first time the IFA-Sponsored IFE is setting up in New York City, and will give entrepreneurs a chance to get acquainted with over 300 of the top brands from every industry and investment level. Joel Goldstein, Group Marketing Director for show producer MFV Expositions, says the expo will showcase big brand names such as Denny’s, IHOP and 7-Eleven and give attendees the opportunity to learn more about those brands from an owner’s perspective. “There are going to be a lot of exciting brands that people will instantly recognize—they might have preconceived notions about a brand, but IFE will give them the opportunity to get a much better understanding,” says Goldstein. “A lot of times, we’ll see that they change their minds about the industry that they were initially interested in.” Goldstein explains that IFE provides an outlet for potential franchisees to go beyond internet research and get a more up close and personal look at business prospects that brands have to offer. “What we’ve heard time and again is that nothing beats face-to-face interaction where you’re able to express interest in a concept and really be able to make a determination there if it’s a fit or a tangible opportunity,” he says.  “You can find out if someone’s a hot lead or a cold lead, sit down with them, get their questions answered, and deliver the information you need to.” The conference also offers seminars and symposiums, including 70 free seminars, covering all aspects of the industry, from franchising a current business to learning about financing options. “We address issues such as how to use a 401k to finance a business, what kinds of SBA loans are available, how to get the money that you need to make the investment,” says Goldstein. “People are using the equity in their homes to start their business, so it’s important for us to show how you as an individual can finance this venture.” IFE’s partnership with publications such as The Wall Street Journal, TIME, and Fortune is allowing IFE to further spread the word about the expo. Goldstein estimates a turnout of 10,000 prospective franchisees, franchisors, vendors and suppliers. “This is the biggest show we’ve ever done,” says Goldstein. “It’s taken on a life of its own.” For more information, visit IFE’s website. --Emily Driscoll
