While many brands like to talk about treating their franchisees like family, fewer are willing to pony up when it comes time to send kids to college.

However, JAN-PRO is doing just that with its Your Family First Scholarship Program.

Andrew Butler, a JAN-PRO franchisee in San Diego, was one of six recent recipients of the program. Butler’s daughter, who attends the University of Evansville in Indiana, received some much appreciated assistance with the high costs of higher education, something Butler said was a big help.

“It really helps the parents who have kids in school,” he said. “It’s a wonderful thing they have done.”

The most recent scholarship grants bring JAN-PRO’s contributions to 70 awards equaling $150,000.

Rich Kissane, president and CEO of Premium Franchise Brands (of which JAN-PRO is a subsidiary along with residential cleaning franchise Maid Right), has spoken at length in the past about how the Your Family First Scholarship Program helps with more than just financial concerns.

“So many of our franchisees over the years have told us they joined JAN-PRO in order to build a business and leave a legacy for their families,” Kissane said. “We know there is no greater legacy than a good education, so we realized that giving back in this way would recognize our hard working franchise owners and help their families offset the rising costs of a college education.”

The scholarship program comes at a time when parents could use all the help they can get with paying for college, as data shows school-related expenses have risen astronomically in recent years.

“Between 2001–02 and 2011–12, prices for undergraduate tuition, room and board at public institutions rose 40 percent, and prices at private nonprofit institutions rose 28 percent, after adjustment for inflation,” states the National Center for Education Statistics.

Meanwhile, it’s not just the children of franchisees benefitting from the program. Daniela Stanoycheva, who emigrated from Bulgaria to the U.S. and became a JAN-PRO franchisee, was able to pursue her bachelor’s degree at Virginia Commonwealth University thanks to some financial help from the Your Family First Scholarship Program, according to Entrepreneur magazine.

“Franchising with JAN-PRO provides me with a flexible work schedule, and in turn, a better quality of life,” Stanoycheva told Entrepreneur last year. “All of the systems are in place to help you succeed.”
