Layne’s Chicken Fingers, the Soon to be Famous™ fried chicken franchise, is planning to expand its operations into West Texas cities, such as El Paso, Abilene and Midland, in the next 18 months, according to Chief Executive Officer Garrett Reed. 

“We’re a Texas chicken company so we really want to be all over the state of Texas,” Reed told MRT.com. “We really have our sights on working our way from Dallas out toward New Mexico and hitting everything in-between.”

The first Layne's location was opened in 1994 in College Station by Mike Layne, a Georgia native and Texas A&M University alum. The franchise has since grown and expanded into Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston, maintaining multiple locations including the original one in College Station. Over the years, they have diversified their menu, which initially offered chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast and a variety of sauces.

The CEO highlighted the unique attributes that make Layne’s Chicken Fingers distinct from its competitors, such as the Louisiana-based Raising Cane’s, which has two locations in Midland. He stated that Layne's offers a menu more in line with the Texan palate, featuring crispier, larger chicken tenders, "real" Texas toast and a wider variety of sauces, including gravy. He also drew attention to their franchise model, with corporate locations in Dallas and College Station, and franchisee-owned outlets in other cities.

Reed confirmed that they have been in discussion with several individuals from West Texas interested in owning franchises in Midland, Abilene and El Paso. While not yet a guarantee, Reed expressed hope that Layne's Chicken Fingers would be able to establish a presence in Midland within the projected 18-month timeline.
