Marijuana is Now Legal for Canadian Adults
Individual provinces will decide on age limits for purchasing marijuana and how to sell it.
Canada officially made marijuana sales legal on Wednesday by passing Bill C-45, which is also known as the Cannabis Act, according to a Business Insider report.
Individual provinces will determine the actual age limits - some might set it at 18 and others at 21, for example - and how the marijuana will be sold, according to the article.
"Canada's move to legalize marijuana is a historic rebuke to the disastrous global war on drugs, which has ruined millions of lives," Drug Policy Alliance senior international policy manager Hannah Hetzer said, according to the article. "Many countries are searching for innovative approaches to drug policy that emphasize health and rights, rather than repression. By taking this bold and principled step, Canada will likely become an inspiration for many other countries."
