Amidst the Miami Zika outbreak, businesses like Mosquito Joe are stepping up to help locals achieve a greater peace of mind with mosquito-borne illness fears looming.

“People have options, instead of waiting for the county to maybe possibly spray and maybe possibly stop by their house,” said Yoel Gutierrez, co-owner of Mosquito Joe in South Miami.

Typically, Gutierrez services the 50 calls he gets a week in the area. Since Wynwood was announced as the Zika capital of the country, Gutierrez is working to cater to the 50 calls he's getting a day.

“I was up at 3 a.m., my mind is jelly,” said Gutierrez, who typically manages a team of six but has recently hired part-time help to meet the surge in demand.
