For Travis Hyde and his daughter, working together at their Pet Wants franchise in Idaho has been nothing short of a blessing. As a father-daughter duo, they leverage their passion and knowledge about pet nutrition to deliver premium-quality pet food made from natural ingredients to their community.
Travis Hyde was a lover of animals long before investing in Pet Wants, growing up working in his grandfather’s veterinary clinic and spending time with the race horses and hunting dogs that his family bred. After high school, he became a veterinarian before leaving to serve in the military. He opened his Pet Wants franchise in 2022.
Travis' daughter Taylor Hyde, a 26-year-old college student studying forensic pathology, is currently also working as a vet tech at a veterinarian clinic. With her wealth of knowledge in the animal industry, she was a natural fit to start working part-time at her father's Pet Wants franchise, initially helping out with deliveries and events as a Nutritional Expert.
"It is really fun working with my daughter,” Travis said. “She is very goal-oriented and focused in life. She is very knowledgeable, and while we all hate to admit we can learn from our own kids, it is really great having her around. She’s young, she’s spry, she’s smart — she really took the opportunity and ran with it.”
Today, Travis Hyde's daughter has become his go-to for events and shows, managing her responsibilities at the vet clinic while also helping at the warehouse, pre-packing orders and participating in events. In addition, Travis' wife Rosie and his 70-year-old mother also support the business part-time. This family-oriented approach has not only brought them closer together but has also allowed them to connect with their community post-COVID.
“The pet industry is the best, and I have the best people around me,” Travis said. “People are generally very happy in this industry. It is the most positive environment you can be in.”
Overall, Travis says the only thing better than helping pets live longer, healthier lives through high-quality, convenient nutrition, is doing so with family.
“This ability to work with family has really been such a blessing,” said Travis. “We all like to try to plan our life out, but to be honest, we didn’t really plan any of this. You realize later on that it all worked out as God planned. This was meant to be. Every time I am able to spend time with my kid, laugh and joke — that is what life is about."
