About 1,800 Starbucks locations have seen a 20 percent increase in mobile ordering during peak hours.

Starbucks’ mobile order and pay platform is so popular the coffee chain is tweaking its store structure to accommodate it.
According to a recent QSR Magazine article, about 1,800 Starbucks locations are experiencing about 20 percent of peak transactions from mobile pay.
President and CEO Kevin Johnson said Starbucks has reallocated employee roles to help efficiently handle the demand. To help handle the demand, Starbucks introduced a tablet-based device that gives baristas with incoming order visibility.
“The retail industry is going through a period of disruption right before our eyes. We believe in the two transformative elements that will continue to propel Starbucks into the future, and we are allocating resources thoughtfully,” Johnson said.
