QSR Magazine: Security Breach Hits ‘Most’ Chipotle Locations Nationwide

Consumer bank accounts and brand image are affected by a major security breach.

The investigation into Chipotle’s security breach this spring is now completed. According to a recent QSR Magazine article, “most” of the company’s 2,250 locations were affected by the breach sometime between March 24 and April 18, including Canadian locations and the brand’s fast casual pizza partner, Pizzeria Locales. Consumers can check on the company’s website to see exactly which locations were hit.

“The investigation identified the operation of malware designed to access payment card data from cards used on point-of-sale (POS) devices at certain Chipotle and Pizzeria Locale restaurants between March 24, 2017 and April 18, 2017,” said Chipotle in a release.

Security analysts mentioned that the company may be subject to a fine due to the size of the breach. Consumers who may have used a payment card at affected locations should continue to monitor their accounts and statements for the chance of fraud.
