QSR: MFHA Hosting Roundtables to Address Racial Bias

The sessions will discuss unconscious racial bias in the hospitality industry

The Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance, or MFHA, will host a series of roundtables, open to leaders in the hospitality industry, on the topic of unconscious racial bias and cultural awareness.

According to a press release published on qsr.com, the organization hosted its first roundtable in Saint Paul, Minnesota on June 14 with Ecolab, a water and energy technologies company and prominent hospitality-industry vendor.

The MFHA has five more roundtables scheduled before the end of the year. Participants will include Kellogg, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, Darden Restaurants, Sysco and Chick-fil-A.

The hospitality industry has recently faced increasing internal and external scrutiny into its policies and practices regarding race and cultural awareness. Last month, Starbucks closed all of its stores for racial bias training following the widely reported arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia location.

“The Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance has long been the cultural intelligence solutions provider for the industry,” said MFHA President Gerry Fernandez. “With recent racial bias events in the news, now more than ever is a time to be involved with the MFHA.”
