Scoop Soldiers Supports Veterans Through Valor Service Dogs Partnership

Scoop Soldiers, the pet waste removal franchise with 40-plus units and counting, was established to help pet owners and their four-legged friends live their best lives by removing the dirtiest part of pet ownership from the equation. However, Scoop Soldiers’ mission to support people and their pets goes far beyond taking the “pooper scooper” out of the equation. Through its partnership with Valor Service Dogs, a nonprofit organization that works to pair veterans and first responders in need with mobility assistance and psychiatric service dogs, Scoop Soldiers donates to support the raising and training of future service dogs that will help their handlers regain independence.

“Scoop Soldiers is a large monthly donor, and all of their donations go into the program — kind of wherever we need support at the time,” explained Carol Lansford, Executive Director and Director of Training at Valor Service Dogs. “Right now, their donations are going toward launching our new breeding program. Scoop Soldiers has sponsored our first litter of puppies. They have a pretty huge impact on our operations.”

While the ongoing partnership has allowed Scoop Soldiers to support the program in a range of needs, including dog supplies or purchasing a puppy from a breeder, Lansford said that the company has been instrumental in supporting Valor Service Dogs in starting its own internal breeding program.

Scoop Soldiers makes a monthly donation to Valor Service Dogs that can support service dogs through 20–24 months of training and boarding as they are prepared for placement in their forever homes. Since sponsoring its first dog, Scoop Soldiers has donated over $74,000. Last year, it sponsored its third dog, Daisy May, and this year, it is supporting Valor Service Dogs’ first litter of puppies.

“The fact that Scoop Soldiers has made their support recurring… that means a ton to us,” said Lansford. “It’s also really nice that they support all aspects of our programs. It’s helpful to be able to use the donations wherever we need at the moment. We never know if a dog might get sick and incur high medical costs, for example.”

A Lifetime of Support

In addition to the financial support it provides Valor Service Dogs, Scoop Soldiers has committed to providing a lifetime of free pet waste removal for the service dogs and their handlers.

“They offer their services to any of our recipients who are placed in areas that they service, so that’s also amazing,” said Lansford. “Depending on someone’s disability, having someone to pick up after your dog can be more helpful than I think people realize. We’re super grateful that they not only help us from a financial standpoint but that they have bled over into offering services to our recipients, as well.”
