Here’s what they had to say:1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What do you want us to know?Kim Ciconte:&nbsp;I'm a career corporate America person. I have spent my career working in sales and business development, with the majority of that time in the staffing industry. But prior to that, I was in the semiconductor industry. So, I've worked for large global companies throughout my career.&nbsp;Chip Ciconte:&nbsp;I'm similar to Kim in that I'm coming from 22 years in corporate America. My background has mainly been in the insurance brokerage business, where I focused on servicing and growing a book of business, as well as directly servicing clients for the last couple of decades.Jeff Ciconte:&nbsp;My history is similar to both Kim and Chip. I bring 26 years of experience in corporate America, specifically within the banking industry.1851: What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Kim:&nbsp;I decided franchising made sense for me because, with my last child leaving home soon, I really wanted to do something where I had more ownership, something I felt a greater emotional connection to. It also offered the opportunity to leverage the skills I've gained over the years and potentially create a family business.Chip:&nbsp;The decision to explore franchising came about as Kim approached me with the idea of starting our own business. I think we all have a bit of an entrepreneurial spirit, and after working in corporate America for so long, the idea of having more control and building something ourselves at this stage of our lives, with our kids growing up, was really appealing.Jeff:&nbsp;Given that we've all been in corporate America but bring different experiences and levels of expertise, it felt like a good match for us to come together and try to build this business.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchise owner, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Chip:&nbsp;Truthfully, beyond the very common examples like McDonald’s and sports teams, I knew nothing about the business model or how the inner workings of being a part of a franchise or owning a franchise actually work. So, this whole process has been very new to me, and really interesting, eye-opening and exciting.Jeff:&nbsp;I didn’t know a ton before starting this, but I loved the concept of being able to run our business and have that independence while having the backing of the larger franchise organization.&nbsp;Being a part of a franchise means you don’t feel like you’re out there completely alone. It’s a really good balance to have.Kim:&nbsp;I agree with Jeff. Having attended some seminars and having done some initial research about what franchising really is, there were no major surprises.&nbsp;What stood out to me, and what I think people should know, was the volume and variety of businesses that you don’t even typically think of that actually operate under a franchise model.1851:&nbsp;What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Kim:&nbsp;I worked with a franchise consultant, and I knew from the start that I wanted to do something service-oriented rather than a storefront selling products or whatnot.&nbsp;We've actually had personal experience using senior in-home care services for our grandparents in the past, and we have aging parents ourselves, so we certainly see the value of having the ability for them to live independently with the help that they need. Specifically, Seniors Helping Seniors® was very interesting to me because of their unique model of having the caregivers also being seniors.Chip:&nbsp;We settled on Seniors Helping Seniors® for a few key reasons. But also, from a personal standpoint, as Kim touched on, beyond just having a business, it's in an industry or an area where we do have personal experience. We're even going through it right now with my father-in-law's advanced Parkinson's disease. Seeing the toll it takes not only on him but also on my mother-in-law and the rest of our family has been really eye-opening, highlighting the significant need for assistance. So, I'm excited to be able to not just run a business, but to help people in our community.Jeff:&nbsp;It really feels like a way to not only build a successful business but also kind of do good in the community by providing a much-needed service. It checks a lot of the boxes that I was hoping for, and I'm genuinely excited to kind of get this adventure going and see the positive impact we can have.1851:&nbsp;What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?&nbsp;Kim:&nbsp;For us, the primary goal is creating a family legacy — something that brings our family closer together and gives our kids an opportunity to learn important things and develop an awareness of the social needs and what’s going on in the community.Beyond that, we’re in a territory that is growing rapidly, so we aim to fill a significant void and meet a real need in the community. Looking ahead, we would certainly want to explore expanding to multiple territories to spread the positive impact in the coming years.1851:&nbsp;Is there anything else about your story you want us to know?Kim:&nbsp;The fact that we’re all coming together from three different industries, each with our own unique experiences and skill sets, is what I love about our journey. We have a strong family history, and the fact that we have seven kids, between the three of us, who are all at very similar life stages and eager to be involved, makes this a true multi-generational story.1851:&nbsp;What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming franchise owners?Kim:&nbsp;Really focus on the due diligence process. For Dedrick Hill, the moving industry is familiar territory. After dedicating 37 summers to the business, he climbed the ranks from a driver to vice president at a major van line. He had built a comfortable career in San Diego, but soon realized it was time to build a legacy alongside his own family. Their grandfather owned the historic Dunbar Grill in LA and their parents successfully ran a South LA preschool for 35 years. Here’s what they had to say:1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What do you want us to know?Dedrick Hill:&nbsp;I've been in the moving business for 37 years. My family is full of entrepreneurs, so this was just the right thing to do at the right time. My brothers and I all have different backgrounds, but they all mesh together. This is the first time that we've actually had a business altogether as one, so it's cool to work with family every day.&nbsp;1851: What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Darrell Hill:&nbsp;Before I was doing this, I was a director at a preschool. It's different to deal with adults than with children, but it’s fun and exciting.Duran McGregory:&nbsp;Before this, I worked in the sports and entertainment industry.Dedrick Hill:&nbsp;I worked for the major van lines and went from being a driver back in the day to a general manager and VP.&nbsp;Our parents were entrepreneurs and they taught us how to be business owners. My grandfather and his brothers were entrepreneurs, too. For us, it was natural because we were always taught to have our own business and to have total independence and autonomy.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Dedrick:&nbsp;I was always a brand guy and I knew that the brands worked. I come from a major brand, so I know how the brand sells. I’ve learned that different franchises give you different levels of freedom. Not all franchises are a good fit for you and you have to pick an industry that's familiar. I wouldn't go into something if I didn’t know how it worked because your takeoff will be a&nbsp; lot longer and your path is a lot harder.&nbsp;1851:&nbsp;What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Dedrick:&nbsp;We were approached by other competitors, but for us, it was really the story behind TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. We could have easily gone out and opened up our own moving company, but people in LA like a brand they can trust. The brand sells.Darrell:&nbsp;I called people that I knew who didn’t live here and they all said that they had moved with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. One person did five moves with them and another person did three, so we knew the brand was out there.1851:&nbsp;What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?&nbsp;Dedrick:&nbsp;We can really build this business out. It's not just TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. There's TWO MEN AND A JUNK TRUCK for junk removal, Merry Maids for cleaning services, and ServiceMaster, where we can do restorations. This will be the core business, but we have the first right of refusal for any of those other brands. This is just a start.Duran:&nbsp;The sky is the limit. Right now, our focus is building a strong foundation and serving our community well, but we’re excited about the long-term possibilities1851:&nbsp;Is there anything else about your story you want us to know?Dedrick:&nbsp;We always give back. That's one thing we've always done as a family. My parents ran a very successful preschool in South LA for 35 years and gave back to the community by making sure the children ate the same quality food we ate at home. We think everybody should be treated fairly and equally. We do the same thing here. Our very first interaction with our trucks and our crews wasn't a move; it was a giveaway to a church.&nbsp;1851:&nbsp;What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming franchise owners?Duran:&nbsp;Be patient and trust the process. Building something meaningful takes time, and there are always going to be challenges along the wayDedrick:&nbsp;This isn’t always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding if you’re committed to it. Having known each other since their teens, the duo always envisioned building a business together.While life momentarily interrupted their plans — sending KesiReddy into the world of Bay Area tech startups, and Parepally into high-level operations — the desire to build something for themselves never faded. Here’s what he had to say:1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What do you want us to know?Sandeep KesiReddy:&nbsp;My business partner Sid and I go back a long, long time. We have known each other for 15 plus years.We went to college together and always had this thing about opening a business together. Then, our paths diverged for a while; I went into entrepreneurship, running a startup in the Bay Area, and Sid became a head of operations for a global company on the West Coast. We were scouting for what we could do, and then came Paris Baguette. They just lined up so well for us as a rising brand that resonates with the current generation.1851: What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?KesiReddy: I run a startup in the Bay Area and Sid manages operations for a global company. We realized Paris Baguette vibes very well with our synergies. They are an “ops-ish” restaurant rather than “ops-heavy.” You bake in the morning and sell in the afternoon, so it boils down more to a numbers and strategy problem rather than a time-efficiency problem that most restaurants have. That made it much more comfortable for us to jump into.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?KesiReddy:&nbsp;Before entering this, we were not keen on looking at franchising or the food business at all. Typically, our perception was that franchising involved a lot of red tape and processes that take away freedom from the owner to add their own flavor. Now, I want people to know that franchising can be very attractive if you find a brand that plays to your strengths. Seldom do you find a concept that has processes that actually empower you, help you run it right, and push towards higher revenues and profit margins. Paris Baguette has a unique combination of making the kitchen and the front of the store run as two independent operations, taking away most of the complexity of a restaurant.1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?KesiReddy:&nbsp;They were not one of those old-school brands stuck with lots of processes; they were flexible and quick in responding. What excites me most is the branding and the presence the brand has with Gen Z and millennials. Also, the flexibility the team had to understand our unique location was nice to have. I could just text my construction manager and have her fly in to help us out; I don’t see that happening often with other franchise brands.1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?KesiReddy:&nbsp;We want it to be one of the top-performing stores. Our goal is to make Bellevue a top-quartile store for Paris Baguette. We are already looking at expansion in the next fiscal year. You’ll see another store open in the Bothell/Woodinville region, and there is more to come.&nbsp;1851: Is there anything else about your story you want us to know?KesiReddy:&nbsp;Having a brand that has an appetite to grow is very important when you have similar ambitions. Most brands look at their franchisees through a single lens, but there are a thousand variables that make every location unique. Having an ear to listen to the story and being flexible while working toward a common goal is very important, and that is what Paris Baguette gave us. We navigated through the curveballs of construction and permits to launch our first store in three months, which the corporate team challenged us on, saying it would take six to eight. We’re excited to keep that momentum going.1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming franchise owners?KesiReddy:&nbsp;The power of a franchise is the process, the setup, and the safety net that comes with it. For a first-time business owner, there are very few things to figure out because there is always someone you can call and ask a question. There are many other franchisees who have been through similar situations. That mentorship is very important.
