Franchise Opportunity Deep Dive: Sylvan Learning is a tutoring and education franchise that has been helping students succeed for more than 45 years.

Sylvan Learning is a tutoring franchise that works with children who need extra help in school. It offers programs in math, reading, writing, test preparation and other subjects. Parents use Sylvan to give their kids more support than they receive in the classroom, and students gain confidence by working at their own pace.
Sylvan Learning started in 1979 in Portland, Oregon. The idea was to create a place where students could receive more personal instruction than they usually get in school. Since then, the company has grown across the United States and internationally. Today it operates more than 710 locations and continues to focus on one-on-one and small group tutoring supported by its own technology.
Mission: Sylvan’s mission is to provide every child with a personal learning experience that builds skills and confidence.
Vision: The brand’s vision is to make high-quality supplemental education available in communities everywhere.
Sylvan sets itself apart with a wide range of programs beyond basic tutoring, including STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) courses and college prep. It is backed by decades of name recognition and proven results that inspire trust among parents. Its proprietary SylvanSync™ technology combines personalized instruction with digital tools to help students progress more effectively.
Franchise owners benefit from a proven business model, brand recognition, multiple revenue streams and a lower-cost entry compared to other education concepts. Owners receive comprehensive training, ongoing operational support and access to Sylvan’s marketing resources and proprietary software. No prior experience in education is required.
Sylvan is actively expanding across the United States, with hot markets in Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
