Fort Bend Star: Former Teacher Amanda Cockrum to Open Sylvan Learning Center in Fulshear, Texas

Former Fort Bend Independent School District teacher and mother of two, is bringing the supplemental education franchise to families in Fulshear.

According to the Fort Bend Star, former Fort Bend Independent School District teacher and mother of two Amanda Cockrum is set to open a Sylvan Learning center in Fulshear, Texas later this year. This will be the area’s third Sylvan Learning along with locations in Sugar Land and Missouri City. Drawing from her own experience as a teacher and mother, Cockrum told the Star she is making it her mission to relieve parents and educators in the area of the sole responsibility for their children’s education.

“There’s such demand for tutors and learning gaps for children out there,” Cockrum said. “The schools do a great job in providing interventions for students, but sometimes it just isn’t enough and kids need that extra push.”

Sylvan Learning will work to close that gap by providing the students of Fulshear tutoring, academic coaching, test prep and STEM learning activities.

Georgia Chasen, Sylvan Learning’s Vice President of Development, told the Fort Bend Star, “The county’s significant economic development highlights an opportunity for new franchisee business opportunities, but is also a sign of an increased educational focus within the local community.”
