Move over, donut fries/sticks/whatever. A churro donut has hit the market in a test capacity, courtesy of Taco Bell. According to an article in Nation’s Restaurant News, the menu addition is being tested in select Kansas City, Missouri locations come April 4. “The $1 Churro Donut is everything you know and love about a churro in the shape of a doughnut,” Taco Bell said.
Taco Bell is also adding a Loaded Nacho Taco to its dollar menu nationwide and testing a Double Beef Quesarito in Charlotte, North Carolina, NRN noted.
Donut products have been a trend at QSR franchises in recent months, with Dunkin’, McDonald’s and Burger King all getting into the mix with various versions of the same item. While in the same vein as these competing offerings, the churro donut is a particularly clever creation in that it allows Taco Bell to reach the same audience with a product that doesn’t diverge from the rest of its menu.
