Taco Bell to Hire 30,000 New Employees

The fast-casual franchise is one of the first major chains to announce a large-scale hiring move since the arrival of COVID-19.

Offering a bit of hope for an industry whose workers have been laid off in record numbers over the past two months, Taco Bell has announced the franchise will hire 30,000 new employees over the summer.

In a statement published by Nation’s Restaurant News, the franchise said the new staffing efforts will fill standard positions as well as new ones designed to increase safety protocols in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The newly-created positions are intended to keep the drive-thru running smoothly, to manage delivery, curbside pickup and mobile app orders, and to maintain industry-leading sanitation and cleanliness practices,” Taco Bell said.

Taco Bell did not say whether or not the hiring burst was planned in anticipation of an influx of business as states begin to relax social distancing regulations. Since dining rooms were ordered closed in states across the country in March, Taco Bell has continued to operate through third-party delivery services and curbside pickup.

In April, Taco Bell began requiring all employees to take temperature checks before working and introduced contactless food-hand-off and payment at drive-thrus.
