TechCrunch: Instagram Stories Hits 200M Users, Surpassing Snapchat As It Copies Its AR Stickers

Snapchat’s growth sank 82% after Facebook launched Instagram Stories.

Instagram Stories has hit 200 million daily active users.

Facebook launched the addition to Instagram in August 2016 and it has already surpassed Snapchat’s 161 million users.

Instagram has been quick to clone things that work well on Snapchat. A year ago Snapchat launched stickers and text you can stick to objects in videos. Today Instagram launched a clone called Pinning.

Instagram told TechCrunch that Pinning was built because  “we see people frequently sharing their lives through videos, so we wanted to enable our stickers to move through videos as one more way to mix your personality with the moments you’re capturing.”

Instagram plans to add custom geostickers drawn by local community members for cities such as Tokyo, Madrid, London and Chicago.
