The Great Franchisee | Director of Radiology Opens Home Clean Heroes With Help From His Daughters

The Grandstaffs opened the home cleaning franchise on October 1.

Director of Radiology Tim Grandstaff has always envisioned opening his own business so he could get his entire family involved. His dream is coming to life after signing with Home Clean Heroes*, the residential cleaning franchise that supports local first responders with every home they clean. Grandstaff signed for two locations in the greater Tampa area, opening his first location on October 1.

Grandstaff already has the support and help from his three daughters. His daughter, Emily Grandstaff, played a major role in the buying process and will take over as office manager after graduation from the University of South Florida in December. His youngest daughter, Savannah, will serve as the assistant manager, and his middle daughter Hillary will help with marketing & branding strategies. Their main goal is to be involved in their community as a business and help local families focus more of their time on spending time together rather than cleaning their homes.

1851 Franchise spoke with Tim and Emily Grandstaff to learn more about their franchise journey with Home Clean Heroes.

1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?

Tim Grandstaff: I’m currently a director of radiology. I started franchising because I always wanted to start a family business where I could create a legacy with my three daughters. Franchising gave us a great foundation to start on and a great business model to follow. I knew that franchising would help provide the framework for us to meet our goals.

Emily Grandstaff: I’m currently a college student at the University of South Florida, where I’ll be graduating in December with a degree in education. Since being in college, my dad brought me a lot of franchising information for us to consider franchising with. He was the one who was retrieving information and speaking with corporate teams to find a brand that would be the right fit for us.

1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?

Tim: I always had high regard for franchising. I knew that franchising provided a great support system for business owners. I have been looking into franchising for the last 25 years.

Emily: I knew that franchising was a good way for a business to expand. Now that I’m involved in franchising, I admire the system even more.

1851: What makes you stand out as business owners in your local community?

Tim: I believe that because we are a family-owned business, people will appreciate that more. It will be a family taking care of another family. Because my daughters will be working so closely on this business, like Emily being the office manager, we can portray how important family is to us. In this industry, you are walking into families’ homes. It’s an invasive service, and I think when people see that family is our priority, they will feel more comfortable with our team being in their homes.

Emily: Our Home Clean Heroes has an emphasis on community. Even the corporate team is centered around helping the communities where there are franchises. I think people will appreciate that we are a business that gives back.

1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?

Tim: I loved how innovative Home Clean Heroes was in the industry. Even their logo and concept were innovative. Our community needed a service like this. A home service that is reliable and safe.

I’m most excited about being able to help people with the business. The service we provide allows families to have more time to focus on being together rather than cleaning. The more time I save them, the more time they get with loved ones.

Emily: I’m most excited about building connections with people in the community as well as the people whose homes we are cleaning. Going into someone’s home can be scary, but creating relationships with our clients can go a long way.

1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth? 

Tim: I think right now we want to focus on developing our first and second territories fully. In the future, I want to look at expanding and owning three or four locations.

Emily: We want to grow in the community and get involved with the community through different events and sponsorships.

1851: What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?

Tim: I’ve always helped people for years within the medical industry. I want people to know that I will offer that same level of commitment to this business. I am completely dedicated to keeping my clients’ homes clean.

Emily: I have always wanted to own my own business. I’m excited about the opportunity to do that and follow in my dad’s footsteps by eventually taking over the family business.

1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?

Tim: Do your due diligence and follow your heart by going with an industry and brand that you are passionate about.

Emily: Find something that you are passionate about. Being a franchisee comes with challenges, but the moments of challenge are made easier when you truly love what you do.
