Cultivating a Growth Mindset: How The Growth Coach Propels Businesses into Prosperity

Through an intensive combination of group and one-on-one coaching, this global innovator employs proven strategies to help small and medium ventures maximize the potential of their people and their profits.

Long before COVID-19, business coaching was a big deal. In fact, according to a recent article in Forbes entitled “Why 2022 Is The Year You Should Hire a Coach,” a 2015 study by the nonprofit International Coaching Federation (ICF) had found that “51% of respondents from organizations that invested in coaching reported higher revenue than that of other similar organizations.”

As the world looks forward to a post-pandemic recalibration, business coaches are projected to be even more invaluable for their ability to help companies become more proficient and efficient. Enter The Growth Coacha Cincinnati-based global authority on taking small and medium businesses to the next level through their unique systems for addressing not only the typical pitfalls endemic to every business, but also the critical changes that have uprooted the business world – including the movement toward more virtual meetings and remote workers, the Great Resignation-based employee migration, and an increasing desire on the part of employers and employees for true work-life balance.

“What the pandemic did for us, was re-energize us internally to come up with cutting-edge approaches to helping the small-business owner recognize their ‘why’ and harness their super power,” said Dan Murphy, CEO and co-founder of The Growth Coach. “Our mission has always been to transform the lives of business owners by helping them define their goals, channel those goals into a practical game plan, and ultimately earn more, all in ways that are truly sustainable.”

Murphy – who previously had been an accountant with Deloitte, where he saw firsthand the struggles of companies to manage growth, cash flow and day-to-day dilemmas – co-founded The Growth Coach in 2003 with partner Gary Green, and from the start, the duo wanted to help small-business owners “reclaim their lives” through core fundamentals such as peer-to-peer coaching groups and customizable systems designed to improve performance on every level, with tangible results.

A significant key to their success, according to Chris Seman, president of The Growth Coach, is that “we know what it’s like to feel alone as an entrepreneur.” Seman added, “It’s scary, and there are so many unknowns, and so we want to empower business owners to step out of their comfort zones and embrace change, bolstered by the tools and skill sets we’ve designed to meet challenges head-on.”

The Growth Coach’s position as a leader in the space – it currently offers business coaching in more than 100 markets in the United States and internationally – has enabled them to test fresh and inventive strategies, such as personality assessments that address behavior and communication styles, and most recently around developing blueprints for transitioning businesses to the next generation or subsequent ownership.

“The percentages of businesses that are owned by baby boomers who are nearing retirement age is just, well, booming, and we’re finding that they need a way to create that next-level success,” said Josh Johns, The Growth Coach’s director of marketing. “We’re always trying to stay on top of and anticipate trends like that and ensure that we have solid strategies in place to address them.”

Chief among the COVID-era pivots, however, was the brand’s decision to incorporate virtual coaching sessions. While today, The Growth Coach still relies on in-person meetings for its core offering, Seman says virtual coaching accounts for nearly a quarter of its meetings and has allowed The Growth Coach to accommodate a wider pool of clientele.

“Organizations are going through such fundamental changes right now that they’ve never had to face before, and in such an overwhelming capacity,” Seman said. “In the midst of that, the question business owners should be asking is, ‘What am I going to do with my destiny, and how am I going to be involved in something that I truly love and want to take to the next level?’”

Then, he added, the next question should be, “’How are you going to get there?’ And that’s where coaching can make a world of difference.”
