Success Story: Why This Business Coach Is Betting On Himself by Bringing The Growth Coach to Southwest Missouri

With 40 years of business management experience building other people’s companies, Rob Jones saw a way to establish his own business while still helping companies overcome financial challenges and achieve rapid growth.

Rob Jones, who recently signed on to open business coaching franchise The Growth Coach in Springfield, Missouri, knows a thing or two about growing businesses.

Before franchising, Jones spent 20 years in the manufacturing sector followed by another 20 years helping businesses across various industries improve operations, reduce costs, increase profits and raise stock values. In 2022, having saved thousands of jobs through his career and proud of what he had accomplished, he decided it was time to apply his skillset to his own venture for once.

“I spent the last two years traveling internationally, working in Canada, Mexico and the UK to build operational excellence in our facilities,” said Jones. “At the end of that assignment, it came to a point where I was ready for something else. With these types of turnarounds, you put in a lot of hours. I was driving three hours a day back and forth to the job. We knew we wanted more control over our life and our time.”

In other words, Jones says, it was time to slow down. “We wanted to go out and do our own thing, but we still wanted to rely on that infrastructure of a franchise,” he said. “We evaluated a lot of franchises in the service industry, but they just didn’t fit my skill set.”

With so much history helping companies find their footing, Jones knew that business coaching was a natural next step. When he came across The Growth Coach, everything fell into place.

“The Growth Coach seemed to be the natural fit for me,” Jones said. “They had a great product and so many programs available for clients. But the biggest factor going into a franchise was the marketing. I knew my weakness was marketing. I have the analytical skills, the financial skills, the operational skills — but I don’t know anything about marketing. That level of support was one of the main reasons we signed on with The Growth Coach.”

For those who are tired of working for a large corporate entity but still want to remain in the business world, The Growth Coach franchise is an attractive career option. Unlike most business coaching franchises that focus on projects and individual coaching, The Growth Coach built a proven model of group coaching that allows franchisees to build an enviable business and leverage their time so they can reach more clients in a standard workweek.

When it comes to support, The Growth Coach franchisees can leverage the backing of a multi-brand, national parent company in Strategic Franchising Systems. That includes access to not only proven operating, marketing, coaching and technology systems and training, but also to a network of other franchisees who can share best practices, as well as cross-brand referrals.

Jones says spending time with the people behind the franchise was a key experience during his onboarding process. “Especially with COVID-19 and so much being done virtually nowadays, it is really important to go visit the corporate office, meet people face-to-face and build relationships with the team,” he said. “That makes a world of difference.”

Now, as The Growth Coach franchisee in Southwest Missouri, Jones is excited to help small to medium-sized companies that are facing financial stress or challenges due to rapid growth. His ideal clients have at least 10 employees and generate a minimum of $1 million in revenue.

“We want to help any clients who are either facing financial stress due to situations beyond their control, or are facing the challenges of rapid growth,” said Jones. “I’ve been through both and I know what it takes to overcome those challenges and be successful.”

So, what is Jones doing now that he has more control over his personal time? “I love spending time with my wife of 41 years, our two sons and our four grandchildren, as well as our horses and dogs on our 40-acre property,” he said. “Family is everything.”

Looking ahead, The Growth Coach team is seeking passionate coaches and consultants like Jones in markets across the country to join its network of franchise owners. Target markets the brand is currently eying for development include California, Texas and Colorado.

“The Growth Coach wants franchise owners like Rob Jones who have a heart for business coaching, a desire to serve and a willingness to guide business owners, managers and salespeople to new heights of success,” said Strategic Franchising Systems President Chris Seman. “This is a franchise opportunity that provides a vital service to the business community in your territory in an industry that’s remarkably stable — and growing.”
