Third-Party Delivery Apps Continue to Take Over the Game

Apps like GrubHub, DoorDash and UberEats are experiencing exponential growth in popularity.

According to an article on Restaurant Dive, a new study shows that 23% of all smartphone users will use a food delivery app by 2023. The number of third-party delivery app users has grown by over 6 million in just the past year.

The customer demand for delivery is clear, with over 51% suggesting they are more willing to order food if the option is available. According to the article, a whopping 83% of customers are willing to pay as much as $5 for a delivery fee.

“Some restaurants and franchise owners have started speaking up about the steep fees associated with food delivery services,” the article stated. “Some suggest that the price isn't worth the inconvenience that the restaurant faces in fulfilling delivery orders.”

As third-party delivery grows in popularity, restaurants and apps are trying to figure out how to develop their services without hurting their margins or burdening diners’ wallets.
