Due to mobility challenges and lack of insurance coverage, Fair had been unable to shower safely at home and relied on the YMCA for basic hygiene. The fully funded renovation, costing between $6,000 and $7,500, includes replacing the bathtub with a low-entry shower, installing sliding glass doors, fixing his toilet and updating shower fixtures — allowing Fair to regain his independence and dignity at home.
“It encompasses our mission of helping seniors age in place safely and helping those who have the mobility issues or restrictions that life has presented them,” Malone told The News-Herald. “It allows us to increase their quality of life, which increases those around them and everything in that way.”
TruBlue, the total home care and handyman franchise, specializes in affordable, accessible upgrades for seniors and busy families. Malone, who launched his franchise in 2023 after training at corporate headquarters in Cincinnati, sees projects like Fair’s as emotionally rewarding and vital.
“It’s just my son and I,” Fair said. “This is probably the biggest blessing I’ve had in a long time. I finally, after the first spill out of the shower, started to look for avenues. I could not do $25,000 these companies wanted, so that’s when I called AARP. They gave me Habitat’s phone number and then they got me involved with TruBlue.” He urges others in need not to be afraid to ask for help, highlighting the importance of community support systems.
Looking ahead, Malone plans to expand his business to Cincinnati by 2026 to serve even more seniors in need. “TruBlue is a franchise,” he said. “This is needed throughout the whole country. There’s over 10,000 people a day turning 65 or older for the next 25 years in the United States. That number’s only going to increase.”
