USA TODAY: The Brass Tap Pairs Beers with Candy for Parents on Halloween

After trick-or-treating, parents can enjoy The Brass Tap's suggested beer and candy pairings.

After a long Halloween night of trick-or-treating with the kids, every parent deserves a cold brew, as well as their fair share of the candy collected. With the right combinations, these two can compliment each other perfectly and The Brass Tap* Manager of Product and Training/Beer Specialist Matthew Stock has the perfect pairings for parents everywhere.

According to USA TODAY, Stock says when matching candy with beer there are two different approaches.

“One is a complimentary approach where you try to match like flavors between your food products and beers, and another is a contrasting nature, where you use aspects of the beer to pull out flavors from the candy,” Stock told USA TODAY.

For a classic sour and sweet candy such as Sweet Tarts, Stock suggests matching the acidity with a saison like Ommegang Hennepin.

“These wild yeast strains impart an earthy flavor profile, so it might not sound particularly delicious. But in the right context, it is,” Stock told USA TODAY.

For those afraid to dive into the world of craft beer, Stock even provided a candy match for the classic Bud or Miller Light.

“Candy corn might pair up pretty well with those,” Stock told USA TODAY. “If I was going to pick something probably more of a mild candy, like Smarties.”
