On a brief call, you can expect to discuss your background, what drew you to Sylvan, what you’re hoping to accomplish in your community and how you’ll make a difference for your students.“When a prospective franchisee first reaches out to us, we do an introductory call,” explained&nbsp;<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/maureen-eichholz/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=what-the-process-to-become-a-sylvan-learning-franchisee-looks-like-2719969" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Maureen Eichholz</a>, Sylvan’s executive director of franchise development. “We give them the history of Sylvan, explain the business model and all of the operational support, and discuss their goals.”<h4>Day 03: Your Due Diligence</h4>Now, it’s your turn to learn. With the support of a franchise development brand ambassador, you will dig into everything you need to know about the brand; this includes reviewing the Franchise Disclosure Document and having conversations with the development team.<h4>Day 14: Pick a Territory</h4>At this point in the process, you will connect with a market research analyst to select the perfect territory. This will be influenced by the prospective franchisee’s sphere of influence, demographic analytics and more.<h4>Day 30: Attend Discovery Day</h4>Attend Discovery Day to meet the Sylvan team and learn more about what it takes to be a franchisee. By the time you are attending Discovery Day, a franchise candidate is well informed about the opportunity and really just looking to confirm that they want to move forward at this time. After attending, prospects debrief with board members of Sylvan’s Franchise Owners Association to learn more about their experiences as franchisees.<h4>Day 45: Create Your Application</h4>After attending Discovery Day, you will work with brand ambassadors to complete all of the necessary paperwork. This includes an interview packet, a plan of action and more.<h4>Day 60: Apply To Become a Franchisee</h4>After submitting the paperwork, you will participate in a video interview with the approval committee. This is where you will meet with the heads of the franchise operations, finance and legal departments to discuss the information in the application paperwork.“Once everything is compiled, then you interview with the executives because they have the final say as to if you’ll proceed and be a franchise owner,” Herrera explained. “Going through that process was a good process. I was slightly nervous, but they made it very comfortable for me.”<h4>Day 75: Sign the Franchise Agreement</h4>It’s official! After signing the franchise agreement, completing licensing paperwork and securing a territory, you are a Sylvan Learning franchise owner!<h4>Day 80: Connect With Your Support Team</h4>This includes the transition from the franchise development team to your franchise business consultant, local store marketing specialist and new franchisee liaison. The franchise business consultant will support you through the onboarding process and introductions to operations, training and support paths.“Everybody from the executive team and the training team is there to lend that support and make things clear if you have any questions or anxieties about something,” Herrera added. “They will all come in at different times throughout the process and allow you to ask questions, to get clarification about what’s involved with being a franchise owner and the resources and tools available to help you.”<h4>Day 90: Train at Franchisee Certification</h4>Attend the hybrid Franchisee Certification premier training led by seasoned franchise business consultants. This training is a combination of virtual training events and in-person trainings at Sylvan centers near the headquarters in Maryland.This is also the time to focus on executing an operational plan and developing a sales culture.&nbsp;At this point in the process, new franchisees take a moment to analyze community demand and decide when will be the best time to officially open their doors.
