<p>The franchising industry is booming across the U.S. According to CNBC, there are close to 3,000 franchise companies that collectively contribute more than $1 trillion to the American economy every year. A major part of what makes these businesses so successful are their teams of dedicated and passionate franchisees. Now CNBC is shining the spotlight on the top 50 franchisees in the U.S.&mdash;one for every state.</p>

Brands were judged on their strong proof of concept in multiple markets, their franchise disclosure document and their financial performance. Franchisees were then evaluated on their satisfaction with the franchise system and their regard for management at the corporate office.</div>

As a self-described &ldquo;great lover of nature,&rdquo; Davis was drawn to the brand&rsquo;s passion for backyard bird feeding. After doing her homework on the company, she was amazed to learn that $6.9 billion is spent annually on bird-feeding and watching wildlife. That&rsquo;s why, in 1996, she decided to purchase a Wild Birds Unlimited franchise of her own.</div>
