KABC Los Angeles: Bodybuilders, Spectators Flock to Venice for Annual Muscle Beach Championship
The Muscle Beach Championship in Venice Beach, with its diverse categories and long history, has been promoted by Joe Wheatley for 24 years and is connected to World Gym.
The Muscle Beach Championship returned to Venice Beach on Labor Day, KABC Los Angeles recently reported, bringing together competitors of all ages and body types to showcase their impressive physiques. This iconic event, which has long been a tradition in Venice Beach even before bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger gained fame there, continues to attract a diverse array of participants.
This year's competition featured various categories, including ones for older competitors, vintage swimsuits, couples and, for the first time, a category for transgender bodybuilders.
For the past 24 years, the event has been promoted by Joe Wheatley, who has seen it grow steadily. Admission to the event is free.
World Gym is a fitness franchise with a long history connected to Muscle Beach. The brand’s first location opened in Venice in 1976 near the area and quickly became a popular destination for serious bodybuilders, Hollywood stars and fitness enthusiasts.
