Entrepreneurs embark on the “race” of their lives to cross the finish line of developing the ideal and scalable business model to expand nationally.

The challenge of all entrepreneurs is to be the first to develop the next great business model.

Eric Bell from FranchiseGator.com has been involved with franchising for more than a decade. He knows what to look for when joining a new franchise concept. Among the plethora of possibilities out there, food service brands are a favorable choice for budding entrepreneurs.

“It [food service brands] is the commonality of every person out there,” said Bell. “Each individual enjoys a good meal, and everyone has shared the same experience of going out to eat. That’s why I believe this particular industry sees the most growth.”

The following start-up brands are worth keeping an eye on as they enter the franchise industry.

Gioradano’s
There’s a reason when people hear Chicago, they think Giordano’s. What makes it standout? The recipe for their famous stuffed pizza has been evolving for more than 200 years.

Rush Bowls
Rush Bowls was launched in 2004 when founder, Andrew Pudalov, decided to leave the hustle and bustle of New York’s financial scene. He wanted to pursue his dream of creating a healthy, fast dining restaurant that fueled people’s lives with honest ingredients and delicious recipes. As a result, Rush Bowls was born, offering meals and smoothie bowls crafted from the fresh fruit, topped with granola and honey, and blended with protein, vitamins and other nutritious ingredients.

Kono Pizza
Carlo Ruggiero experienced Kono on a family trip in Europe. As a multi-unit franchisee in the fitness and food industry, Ruggiero knew he could launch this concept in states. According the company’s website, the first location launched in Edison, New Jersey, in 2013. Now, the brand has 15 locations in development.

Roman Candle
A decade ago, founder & CEO Brewer Stouffer had a vision of creating a craft pizza restaurant that used locally-sourced ingredients and had a focus on community outreach. Not only did Stouffer accomplish his goal, but Roman Candle’s flawless twist on pizza leaves consumers salivating for more.

Sobelman’s
Dave Sobelman didn’t set out to create the premier locale for bloody marys and gourmet hamburgers in his hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. However, as fate would have it, he did just that. Now, his 16-year-old business is launching a new endeavor he never dreamed of: growing his wildly popular concept across the United States as a premiere franchise.

Tin Drum Asia Café
The company website states that Steven Chan created Tin Drum in 2003 to bring people from all walks of life together to share in a meal that was both tantalizing and comforting.

Bow Truss Coffee
At Bow Truss, the goal is to make specialty coffee more approachable, bringing fantastic single origins, naturals, and delicious direct trade to you through partnerships and collaborations around the world. There are currently six locations, with plans for 14 additional spots planned to open in the next 12- 18 months.

“The quality coffee industry is growing exponentially,” said Philip Tadros, CEO of Bow Truss “There have been many stories and partnerships within the industry that had happened within the last six months, big things are happening.”
