I could feel myself heading in that direction, too. Because of that, I realized I wouldn’t have anyone in the industry to lean on to know whether I was moving in the right direction. In previous businesses, I’d hired coaches to help me grow, but whether their advice worked or not, I still paid for it. When I started thinking about the restoration business, I worked for another company in the space. They were a mom-and-pop that grew quickly but didn’t learn the lessons needed to sustain that growth, and eventually they had to scale back. I didn’t want to spend 25 years stumbling through how to run a business.What led me to this particular franchise was the organization’s innovative mindset. AI is here to stay, and it’s going to change things fast. It gives a sense of accomplishment.1851: What was your perception of franchising before you became a franchisee and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you’re in it?Kevin: One, that it was too expensive to get into. Because when you think of franchising, you think of the major chain brands. You don’t really realize that the cost of entry is there for somebody who’s just wanting to break the surface. I got a better impression when one of my friends, one of my lieutenants from Afghanistan actually, got into franchising. It was a lot of hard work at the beginning but the amount of independence he has now and the financial security he has now was appealing.
