What do you want us to know?James Sarpy: I was born and raised in New Orleans. I used to own a Honey Baked Ham franchise, which I sold right before COVID, so I really know the franchise game. I also own rental properties in the city, and I’ve worked in property management. A lot of those clients were seniors, so I already had experience with that demographic.On a personal note, I’m the youngest of four kids, and we moved my father three times before he passed. I handled most of that. All of these things — being a landlord, moving my dad, helping older tenants — really led me to Caring Transitions. I thought, “Wow, this is an altruistic business model that really makes sense.” People often don’t think about downsizing or organizing until a crisis happens. It’s like planning a wedding — you wouldn’t do that without a planner, so why not have one when downsizing or moving during a really emotional time?1851: What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Sarpy: I got into franchising when I was just 27. A family friend was selling their Honey Baked Ham store, and I took it over. Before that, I was selling life insurance. Being part of a franchise gave me structure and support. People talk about royalties like they’re a bad thing, but honestly, the infrastructure and guidance you get with a franchise is worth it. It saves you time and money in the long run — and helps you grow smarter.1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Sarpy: First off, the mission is very meaningful. It’s altruistic — you’re helping people at a critical point in their lives — but it’s also practical. The scope of services is broad: packing, organizing, moving, estate sales — it’s all needed. Working in property management, I saw this firsthand. What are your plans for growth?Sarpy: This business is only going to grow. I haven’t even opened yet and people are already calling me.
